Department characteristic

► The main subject of this department is classical dance, which developes dance technique and coordination of motion, strength, skills, assiduity, supports their harmonic physical development and shapes professional dancers from them. It is needed to emphasize that knowledge of classical dance technique is the basic preparation for any other types of dance. During an educational process, the pedagogue has to apply methodical advances which develop coordination and form of dance and sense for emphasizing of music by dance. By the study of figures and dance variations and combinations of classical dance, students gain abilities, knowledge and skills which can be applied in dance practice. These factors are covered by study in the1st till the 6th academic year. Students are systematically led to the achievement specific knowledge and dancer’s abilities.

► Very important subject in the study of dance is modern dance, in which pedagogues educate dance-talented students . The difference between modern and classical dance is in its content as well as in its form, so it is very important to devote an individual attention to it. It exploits new knowledge about body which is being shaped afterwards. Philosophy is the part of this study and as the result of it; there are basic characteristic movable principles and movable phrases and gestures.M. Graham, J. Limón, L. Horton belong to the most famous icons of modern dance. All these famous people brought system into the artistic dance exhibition of 20th century and they elaborated the content of knowledge required for achievement of particular aim. In the middle of the 20th century post-modern dance was formed. Long time ago it had been considered an alternative artistic flow. In the 80´s the aesthetic style was formed and is was designated as actual dance. Dance, which contains the principles and basis of the philosophy of actual dance, has enormous utilization in professional band.However also dancers with focus on classical dance should have basic knowledge of it. It is can be found in dance theatres too. The aim of the Department of Dance is to prepare for universal application in particular profession and in this context the education of modern dance is essential.

► The subject folk dance is the main subject of study of the Department of Dance. During the study, students gain both theoretical and practical knowledge about folk dance. The main accent is put on recognition of the traditional culture, acquirement of complex range of dance tradition, acquirement of motion, to form traditional background, ability to interpret folk dance, to understand the structure of dance, and ability of traditional folk dance improvisation. The development of physical dispositions, musical feeling and right aesthetic opinions and habits are followed by educative and pedagogic work. The syllabus enables students to gain theoretical knowledge about particular dance fields and its practical acquirement in particular classes. After finishing of continual 6 year education, students will link on higher vocational level by professional artistic achievement.
