Talent examinations

For 2009/2010
department: Music and scenic

Date of examinations: March 30th 2009

Basic preconditions for passing:

1. successfully finished 9th class of Elementary school
2. mark average till 3,0
3. physical preconditions
4. health preconditions
5. preconditions for study of Dramatic art

Notes:
1. The application for talent examinations send student in 9th class of elementary school. It is a law that a student from lower class is not allowed to be an applicant for study. The candidates are obliged to send an application form officially pressed by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic.
2. Assessment will cover student’s achievements during study on Elementary school.
3. Physical preconditions for dancing:
     -shape of lower and upper limbs
     -flexion and range of motion of hips
     -predisposition of lower limbs, plantar arch, instep
     -predisposition to jump
     -physiologically curved, flexible spine
     -general flexibility, balance, weight
4. A precondition for successful managing of study:
      -creative art performance, natural behaviour
      -musical ear, pitch and timber of voice
      -dance and motion preconditions

Detailed criteria for talent examinations:
Department: Music and Scenic art

• The main aim of talent examination is to gain a connected image of candidate’s talent and preconditions. We assume dramatic, musical and motion ability, healthy voice able to develop, correct pronunciation, physical preconditions without diseases, adequate look, and preconditions for musical and scenic study.

First part: exam of dramatic preconditions

-candidate prepares:
a) motion etude – without word + arbitrary theme
b) compulsory texts:
-common poem for boys and girls – M.Válek – Len tak báseň – “Kto má kľúč”
-poem for girls - E. B. Browning: Portugalské sonety, poems XXVIII a XXIX
-poem for boys - A. S. Puškin: Severná ruža, poem „Krásavica“
-prose for girls - L.M. Montgomery: Anna zo zeleného domu
-prose for boys: H. Hesle: Ľúbostné príbehy „ Gavalier na ľade“
-dialog : W. Shakespeare : Romeo and Juliette, II.2 Capulett Garden

Second part: cantorial and general music examination

- candidate prepares:
a) one folk song + one artificial (you can choose from jazz, pop, movie, musical, chanson – needed)
b) music memory – it requires:
-ability to repeat basic melody and short melodic and rhythmic motive
c) tonal exercise – it requires:
-to sing an elementary song from different tones, to distinguish between Dur and mol
d) sense for rhythm – it requires:
-reproduction of rhythmical motive

Third part: dance preconditions

a) dance performance of modern or folk dance to any song /approximately 1min/
-you have to bring your own music sample
b) repetition of given dance sample

During talent examinations, candidate(beyond compulsory preparation):
-will sit for an interview – mutual dialog with pedagogues ( art topic)
-will get space for own art creation, which characterises candidate more closely

Candidate are supposed to bring their own:
-gym shoes and dress, music sample, suitable cloths
